What kind of connection does HelpQuest.Com have?

HelpQuest.Com's webservers are all on redundent DS3 lines through Savvis Networks. More importantly, no more than 80% of our bandwidth is utilized at any given time.

What operating system is the server running? How much RAM is installed on the server?

All of our webservers are running on Red Hat Linux, version 5.1.  All servers have at least 512MB of ECC SDRAM installed.

* We will be changing to Sun Microsystems Enterprise servers in the near future.

Only virtual domains have their own log files, which can be found in the following direct paths:

  • Access Log: /var/log/httpd/yourdomain.com-access_log
  • Error Log: /var/log/httpd/yourdomain.com-error_log


  • Remember to replace yourdomain.com with your actual domain name!

    What version of Perl do you have installed on the server? What is the path to perl on the server?

    HelpQuest.Com currently has Perl version 5.004 installed. Below are the following paths you may use to reference perl:

    /usr/bin/perl
    /usr/bin/perl5.004
    /usr/local/bin/perl
    /usr/man/man1/perl.1

    What is the fully qualified domain name of the web server?

    This will differ for each of our servers. The format would be: servername.helpquest.com. For example if the server your website is on is called saturn the fully qualified domain name would be: saturn.helpquest.com

    What are the default permissions on files and directories created/uploaded to the server?

    Files uploaded or created on the server by default are given the permission 644 (chmod 644). Directories are set to 755 (chmod 755).
